Central Market ( Pasar Seni): A glimpse of Malaysian Culture

13:45 23/1/2012  After walking aimlessly at Chinatown we walk across to Jalan Hang Kasturi which the Central Market is located.

I had visited this place a couple of times and  mention it to Summer what’s inside. She always convince me to drop by and now I don’t have an  excuse since it’s  right across to Pasar Seni Station where we took bus going to our abode.  -Sky

At some point we thought  Pasar Seni  was a Bahasa Melayu  translation of Central Market but it’s actually  “Art Market”. They just retained the Central Market since it is the old name. The structure is noticeably old but once you go inside, you’ll be fascinated and see a glimpse of Malaysian Culture.

We bum around and had observe that each alley corresponds to its uniquely diverse culture of Malaysia. The Straits Chinese, Lorong Melayu, and Lorong India.

Straits Chinese
Hand crafted Bags

Blue Ceramics

Indigenous crafts

distinctively Malaysian house ornaments

Central Market is also known as  one stop place for tourists and alike  to buy  souvenirs for a reasonable price. Everything that you can think as memento like key chains, Petronas and KL tower miniatures, I Love MY/ KL  shirts, and more.

Summer didn’t miss a chance to pick some trinket and finally stop on a particular stall. That time she passed to haggle since the prices were relatively cheap.

She got a  bonus (not an item) but a free snapshot together with the sales lady (LOL).  A fulfilled shopping spree day for Summer.

  1. Malaysia…truly Asia! 🙂

Where are you based now? Thanks for visiting my blog. I added you too on my blogroll. I love your term "Davaoistic" 🙂

    Keep your trails going,
    Dave ^_^

  2. Hi Dave,

We're based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. True enough, their tagline speaks for itself. ^_^ We can't describe any word and I bet "Davaoistic" best suits you.

  3. Hi Sky,

I highly agree, Malaysia is one of my dream trails, especially the Afamosa Resort. Have you been there? I will start my Asian trail after satisfying myself with our dear PH. Daghan pa kaayo ko wala naadtuan diri. Hahaha! ^_^

    Following your trails,
    Dave

  4. Hi Dave,

Afamosa Resort is in Melaka, haven't been there but we plan to visit it by end of February or 1st Week of March. We also feel guilty, the only place we travel in PH was Cebu-CDO-Davao. That's why we also plan to tour the entire PH if the budget permits. Puhon mag sugat rata sa dalan! hehehe ^_^

    Sky
