5th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2013

16:00 31/03/2013 It has been a year now, the moment we chase sunrise, hit the ERL  (fast train in M’sia) and blowned away by the multi shape-colored Hot Air Balloon at  Putrajaya, Malaysia (story here). The great experience we had the previous year  brought us again in this annual event. We would have missed this event if our visa wasn’t  released on time. That will be another story. We’re so glad that we’re able to come back to KL and experience it again and this time with friends and their kids.

We arrived at Precinct 2 in Putrajaya where the launching area of 5th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2013 is happening. We took advantage for being  early birds and claimed a good spot so our kiddo’s can freely watch the HAB in full colors. Too bad, an unforeseen weather condition disrupts our excitement, thunderstorms and heavy rain follows. But we got spared from the unfriendly weather as we rush  in to one of the government building and took a refuge until the rain subsides.

It was just on time the event started after the rain ease off. We harbored the perfect spot that we claimed earlier. The screen behind our ground shown what had happened last night. Telling us that we had missed that spectacular night event with fireworks.

Field was empty and slowly the spectators fill in surrounding the launching area. The organizers, HAB pilots, and media converge next to the stage and officially start the culminating activity.

The go signal was on and the teams scattered across the launching area and prepping their HAB for take off.

It’s really cool witnessing how  Hot Air Balloon was launch from the ground. We haven’t notice as detailed as this from our previous experience since most of HAB that time we’re already inflated.

Burners was like a dragon blasting with fire with roaring sound

The surrounding get’s warmer and hotter as flames from the burners of each HAB was tested before launching.

We also notice that each team has time interval for launching the HAB. This maybe due to limited launching space  and also later followers can still witness the remaining HAB.

A banner “In memory of Captain Khairudin” got our attention and we just knew he’s the one pioneering the Balloon fiesta in Malaysia. Hat’s off to you Capt. Khairudin.

You might be wondering what he’s carrying? A basket for the hand mini hot air balloon. I guess this use for advertisement purposes, if not mistaken.

These small hand carried Mini- Hot Air Balloon has it’s own class. Though they’re not meant for flying but it serve it’s purpose “to entertain everyone”.

There are 18 participating Balloons in this year’s event which I guess get lessen from last year, if our memory serves us right. We spotted same ones and new additions like smurf HAB which got our kiddos attention.

Aside from the Hot Air Balloon, the Para Motor pilots had also graced the afternoon sky, showing their para gliding skills. An event of flying fun filled afternoon that carves a good memory for kiddos and kids at heart.

We’ll come back again on the 6th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and make sure witness that night spectacle with fireworks.

Hot Air Balloon Lover,

Sky and Summer

  23. It looks like they hold the event in a city center and a smaller venue compared to our Clark Hot Air Balloon Festival but nonetheless you must' have enjoyed watching the balloons take off. Is there a Breitling air show?
