Singapore Laksa at Hawk Cafe Jurong Bird Park, Singapore

11:45 01/09/2013 After being overwhelmed with 5000 birds of 380 different species at Jurong Bird Park. Our  stomach went on convulsion, asking for a solid meal. On that morning we only manage a take away of Mee Hon and fish cakes after running to catch an early bus bound to Jurong hill. The meal was a good filler for an hour before we heard our grumbling guts plead for a Singaporean nice meal. We gave in and check out the nearest restaurant at Jurong Bird Park, Hawk Cafe.

The inviting mood of Hawk Cafe dragged without a force, and made our eyes glued on it’s stylish geometrical interiors. The ambiance was filled with art of falconry and visual information about it’s sport and species of birds.

The polygonal lantern suspended from the ceiling caught our attention. We even tried to count how many sides of the polygon, and it has 16 sides which means it’s a Hexadecagon.

After amusing ourselves with name that polygon we queued up to their order counter. The choices on their menu board looks appealing. Every new patrons will surely acknowledge that.

The selection of food was mostly similar of what we can expect in a bistro or cafe back in KL. We’re looking something uniquely Singaporean and the only meal that pass on that criterion was the Singapore Laksa.

Singaporean Laksa is curry-coconut based type of laksa, contrary to it’s cousin Penang Laksa which is made from assam that gives that sourish kick. The noodles used is kinda similar used to other Laksa. The bean curd puffs, fish sticks, hard boiled eggs and prawns are the usual ingredients of this type of Laksa.

There was no hint of a curry with our first sip of Singapore Laksa, which is good. Maybe it was overshadowed by it’s coconut milk or other flavor. The curry- coconut base soup was incredibly good and this maybe the rich texture makes this Laksa stands out. The bowl was filled with heaven of goodness. We ended up sipping till the last drop of this delicious soup.

We highly recommend the Singapore Laksa of Hawk Cafe outside of Jurong Bird Park. Try it you’ll not be disappointed.

  1. Yummy indeed! thanks for visiting!

  2. After viewing 5000 birds I would have been so unmotivated to eat at a bird themed cafe, no matter how hungry…but this place looks gorgeous and so does that laksa! I'll keep this in mind when next visiting Singapore. Found you on expat-blog in the Malaysia directory and thought I'd drop by to say hello. 🙂

  3. Hey Ming Lim! We kinda felt the same, but our grumbling stomach controlled us and made us eat that Laksa. But we don't regret it, and we'll probably do the same when get a chance visiting Jurong Bird Park.
