Temporary Abode: Thara House Bangkok Thailand

14:00 12/10/2013 When a pseudo airline booking turns real, our short-lived  awe was instantly covered with anxiety. Most of our travel, we’d our accommodation confirmed ahead of time to negate the worry of fully book or being shooed away. Without no idea and itinerary on mind we don’t know where to stay and location to choose in Bangkok. So we asked Google and heard the solicited advice from the seasoned wanderers of Pinoy Travel Bloggers.

After evaluating all the recommendations where to stay in Bangkok, we’d choose Thara House as our temporary abode. We heed of Drew’s (not a hubby of Iya) advice for Thara House and seconded upon reading an old post of Flipnomad about spending cheap in Bangkok.

If you try to search Thara House in Agoda, you’ll not able to find them. But you can get bit information about them and notable reviews via tripadvisor. We do send reservation through email and they had response in 2 days time confirming our room for a night.

Location

Thara House
100-100/1 Phra Athit Road Chanasongkhram Pranakorn Bangkok Thailand

Thara House is conveniently located 10 minutes walk to the famous Khao San Road (backpackers haven), Grand Palace and Golden Reclining Buddha. Its location is much quieter compared to Khao San. There are few restaurants along the block which serve Western, Asian and of course Thai cuisine. A couple of 7-11s and some pubs that serve cheap Thai beers.

Phra Athit Boat Pier (Water transport along Chao Phraya River) is walking distance from Thara house. Just opposite to the guest house is a Bus stop which public buses plying in within Bangkok.

Check In

We just informed the receptionist of our email reservation then instantly provide us our room assignment.  There’s a key deposit of 500 Baht upon check-in and refundable when checking out.

Check In    Time: 12:00 PM (Bangkok Time)
Check Out Time: 12:00 PM (Bangkok Time)

They handed over the key, AC and TV remote and WiFI password slip. We thought been assigned on the 5th floor (highest) was favorable but it’s not. They don’t have elevators, only a well polished shiny stair. We’d climbed up carrying our heavy backpacks till the top. A good exercise maybe.

Our Room

A peek to our 600 Baht/night  AC Double Room with Window. Our room was bit spacious for a guest house standard. We couldn’t stop comparing this room from our previous trips. This really was quite a steal. Thanks, Drew!

The red-orange painted room creates a jolly atmosphere. While the dark reddish Thai silk woven curtain was a perfect light blocker, and concealer for prying eyes. The room was filled with a positive vibe which  promised us a good night sleep which it did from our overnight stay.

Room Amenities

Our queen size bed paired with a clean smelled white comforter were modest nothing to shout about. The provided pillows were not too soft nor too hard, just enough to make our head comfortable.

A cleaned folded marooned towels were lying on the bed, that reminded us we’re not staying in a fancy hotel.

A pretty wooden closet, enough to hide our backpacks and vanity table with mirror accompanied with a cute wooden round stool.

The bathroom was quite acceptable and far better from a terrible experience we had in Fragrance Hotel Pearl in Singapore

We’re didn’t expect seeing water heater in this guest house. Though the water pressure was bit weaker but still  it’s functional (no pun intended).

The best thing about our room on the highest floor was the view irrespective what time of the day . It gave us two contrast paradigm of what Bangkok on day and night time.

One good thing about Thara House was their Internet Kiosk. We find it useful since we didn’t bring our laptop and thus able us to connect to the web without hurting our pocket. This kinda resembles of our pisonet in Philippines. You just have to insert 5 baht coins to use the PC’s for couple of minutes. Budget friendly and convenient.

One, that made Thara House wowed so many guests and travelers was their own ATM. It’s just located near the door in front of the guest house. How convenient and safe is that?

Nong, the friendly receptionist of Thara House

A good night sleep and heart warming experience would not be possible if Nong wasn’t there. She was very hospitable and made sure we had our best experience in Bangkok. Cheers!

If looking for cheap and decent stay in Bangkok, we highly recommend Thara House. They truly deliver their promise Comfortable and Friendly.
