Saigon Trip: Banh Trang Nuong

16:30 02/11/2013 Food is one of the things we missed looking back our last trip in Saigon. We’d been spoiled with mouth watering Pho Bo, freshest spring rolls, newly baked Banh Mi, and the list goes on. But of  all of the food we’d tried in Vietnam. There is one street food that lingers to our palate, till this time. It’s not exotic, weird or common. This food had been a favorite to younger Vietnamese and we’re so lucky that our local friends introduce this to us. Meet Banh Trang Nuong,  aka Vietnamese Pizza.

Vietnamese friends
Say again? Banh -Trang -Nuong. Western people called it Vietnamese version of pizza.

Banh Trang Nuong is grilled  rice paper wrapper topped with grounded meat (pork or beef), shrimps, spring onions, quail eggs, butter then chili sauce for a nice kick.

Looking at was easy to prep. They just spread all the toppings with a beaten quail egg on the rice paper wrapper. Then varnish some butter before grilling.

The grilling was very quick, about 3-5 minutes. Then voila we got our yummy Banh Trang Nuong!

We tell you, the taste is very flavorful and got foodgasm right there. We can’t compare it to any dish since it very unique and has character on it’s own. It captures our sophisticated appetite.

By the way if you looking for Banh Trang Nuong vendors they can be spotted opposite to Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon or any streets in Ho Chi Minh.

Even now we can’t get over it.  Take us back to Saigon please!

Banh Trang Nuong lovers,

Sky and Summer
