11:10 31/01/2014 Visiting Penang during holidays can be quite hectic and stressful if the plan is not properly laid out. We had a fair share of experience when we spend the lengthy weekend of Chinese New Year over a year ago. Long queues at the airport, limited shops are open and temples are immensely crowded. But these hurdles doesn’t deter our aim to revisit Penang and cover the places we haven’t set foot from the previous.
This trip in Penang was a last minute plan due to an irresistible AirAsia deal. After securing a flight itinerary we realize we got another dilemma. Where to stay? Most of the accommodation around Georgetown Penang was fully booked, considering it’s weekend and Chinese New Year. We didn’t stop scouting in Agoda until we found the best deal from Ryokan Chic Hostels.

Location
Ryokan Muntri Boutique Hostel
62 Muntri Street Georgetown 10200
Penang Malaysia
Ryokan is a “Japanese Inn” which the name of the hostel has been derived. It’s one of the best hostels to stay in Georgetown. If you won’t believe let the online reviews speaks for itself. Three things that people like to stay here location, comfort, value for money. Believe it or not, we scored 35RM/ bed on a Mixed 4 Bed dormitory type, breakfast included. This could be cheaper but during the peak/ holiday season, a-aahh.
Check in Time : 2:00 PM
Check out Time : 12:00 PM
One of the things we easily notice upon entering the hostel was the chic interiors of the receiving area. It was tastefully adorned, fancy decors and artfully lit. There are numerous tables lined up for people with online gigs and bean bags for bums.
All the rooms are located on the second floor. There is a divided rack near the stairs intended for footwear. Shoes are not allowed inside the accommodation area, so one must deposit it on the provided shoe rack
Chillax Area |
Some stylish bean bags are scattered along the corridor and Books towards the end for bibliophiles. It is one of our favorite hang out area, wanna know why? bean bags + strong wifi signal = heaven.
There are 3 shower rooms opposite to the 3 comfort rooms. The showers have the right amount of water pressure with an option of hot/ cold water. Unscented shower gel and shampoo are available from the dispensers inside the shower rooms.
Our Room
The mixed 4 bunk beds room was bit capacious, well ventilated and lighted. The AC are functioning well throughout our stay.
Beds look so rigid but it was the opposite. It’s very comfortable just like it’s pillow, and bed sheets has no stench of bleach or whatsoever.
Electrical sockets are concealed from a mini compartment beside the bed and light bulb for each bed.
Another amenity the hostels provide is the personal lockers in each dormitory room. But one must provide his/her own padlocks as they don’t provide one.
Free Breakfast
Yes, you heard it right, who said only hotels provides a complimentary breakfast. At Ryokan, it’s not just a spread, butter and slice bread. But a breakfast meal set. During our stay, we enjoy their sunny side up egg with sausage, toast and unlimited coffee and juice. Food is one of the best thing about staying in Ryokan.
Overall, we had great accommodation experience in Ryokan. The comfort, the ambiance, the people we met and most of all the person running the place. The receptionist was super friendly and really take good care of each guest. Hands down!
We highly recommend Ryokan Chic Hostels for the discerning backpackers and even to business travelers.
Note:
This is not a sponsored post but our way of appreciation with our good stay in this hostel.
