Why is it awesome in Thaipusam? Day II

07:45 07/02/2012 We woke up 6:30 AM still in oblivion.Until we recall it’s the final day of Thaipusam and we’ve to meet our MPL friends who will join us. We quickly jump off  the bed, hit the cold shower and geared ourselves.  We arrive at KL Sentral 15 minutes ahead of our 8AM call time. Everyone showed up, had breakfast at Burger King and  bought our tickets. Then we proceed to platform 3 bound for Batu Caves. The train arrive 30 minutes late as we expected or worst it could have been a dejavu of Day I.

Get stuck in a very crowded train with friends ( improves your elbowing skills) is awesome

It may not be a smooth ride like LRT/ MRT but  once you survive the KTM ordeal. You’ll be definitely in euphoric state and fulfilled something like (how to hold  your breath for several minutes or how to divert your attention when someone’s face is inches away from yours)

We disembark on Batu Caves station and wait until crowd ease off. Area is clear, then each one show off their weapons as we commence the photo walk. Everyone find a good spot, fires the shutter and  don’t bother the scorching heat of morning sun.

Photography enthusiast, hobbyist and alike flocking to this vibrant celebration because it offers endless and awesome subjects to snap.

An estimated million of people gather together in the culmination of Thaipusam festival. Most are devotees, Hindu worshipers, tourist and even public officials join this event.

Seeing all walks of life come together in this momentous event for Hindus is awesome.

We highly anticipate to watch  the  Vel Kavadi bearers since this is the main attraction of Thaipusam. This type of Kavadi have the Vel ( spear like ) pierce on their cheek or tongue. Others have this mini altar decorated with ornaments and peacock feathers attached to their waist while a vel is pierce on. their chest  and back.

Observing a devotee in trance and personally view the vel pierce on their body is awesome.

As the Sun goes up high and we aren’t much that prepared so we desert the place but not empty handed. We got full snaps shots to blog, share and even scared for those who have weak stomach. The entire experience is noteworthy and would surely go back the next time around.

  1. your photos look great! My friends and I were there a few days after the festival and what's left were mountains of trash =(

  2. Thanks Stray Pusiket! ^_^ Even during the festival, pile of trash were already there. But during ordinary days, the place is well kept and maintained.
