Temporary Abode: KL House Ao Nang Krabi Thailand

09:11 23/11/2013 Cotton like cloud descending from sky blanketed the limestone cliffs. A dreamy spectacle which normally seen at movies or in a Nat Geo documentaries. Now, just within our sight, next to the road where our bus from airport dropped us. Finally we’re here. The scenic view that we’d admired to look at. It all began two years ago after bumping a site  from a fellow travel blogger who’d envied us with a panoramic scene of karst cliffs from their balcony. Who doesn’t want to experience such picturesque sight? Right that moment we decided that we’ll book our accommodation at KL House in Ao Nang when we visit Krabi.

When an opportunity of booking a cheapo airfare to explore Krabi. We scored 272.76 RM for a 3 nights stay, Standard room at KL House through Agoda. It was relatively cheap considering November is a peak season in Krabi.
We arrived in Krabi on untimely circumstance. A day ago, bad weather struck the islands of Andaman archipelago including the famous Kho Phi Phi. It simply means , no island tour hopping on the first day. Heartbreaking may it seem but despite the unpleasant weather we found reasons to smile. Mother nature has its way of making people happy on any given day irrespective what kind of weather she throws at. Well, she only wrapped the lush karst hills with clouds. It was stunningly beautiful, a brief occurrence when heaven meets earth.

The cold breeze damp on our skin is a cue for another rain. Before we get soaked from downpour we rushed  to our temporary abode’s reception area and exchange pleasantries with the solo staff which happened to be the owner himself.

Location

KL House Ao Nang
142 Moo – 2 Ao Nang, Muang Krabi 81000 Thailand

Finding KL House wasn’t that difficult since it’s located just beside the main road of Ao Nang. The golden yellow embossed of KL House on a wooden background was too noticeable not to miss when commuting through bus or taxis.

KL House is in between a Coffee shop (managed by Owner’s wife) and a Dive shop. Within its lane were Motor bike rental shop, Pharmacy, 7-11,  Clinic and another Guest house. Opposite to it are restaurants, bars, hotel, Family Mart with the  stunning view background of limestone hills.

Shopping stalls, restaurants, money changers, banks, massage spa, fast food chain, Starbucks and night life venue was just walk away from KL House. Ao Nang beach (famous for its beautiful sunset) is just ten minutes by foot.

Since we arrived 10AM, it was too early for a check in time. The owner politely explained that our room wasn’t ready yet and will only be available by 12NN, which is fine to us. He suggested nice places to eat and to explore in Ao Nang.

Our Room

Initially we’re hoping to get a Superior room knowing it will give us a vantage view of that panoramic limestone hills. But unfortunately it was all occupied and we settled for Standard AC room with window at the second floor.

Stairs leading to 2nd floor

We didn’t expect their standard room was spacious, something that we least expect for a guest house accommodation. This could be a typical room for honeymooners.

Room Amenities

A clean pair of towels  with no frills folded on top of our queen size bed with decor that matches the hue of the room. While two soft pillows were leaning on the bed with two side tables opposite to each other.

An open wardrobe made of wood attached at the wall creates more space to put our stuff. And  durable white hangers suspended on the pole rack ready to be used.

Beside the wardrobe was a  big vanity mirror which was as big as a door frame. We’re both amazed every time we look ourselves into this mirror. It always gave us that good vibes which boostself-confidence, if you know what we meant. Hehe.

Opposite to our bed was an empty but functional mini refrigerator. And an almost obsolete CRT TV but loaded with updated cable channels. Anyway we’re not picky when it comes to TV or appliances on a temporary abode  since we rarely used them except to AC of course.

The most important and took most of our time on temporary abode is the wash room.  We always expect thoroughly clean without a single speck of dust or stain. If not at least modestly clean.

Well, the comfort room of KL House was clean and well maintained enough. Very far from our unpleasant experience of one hotel in Singapore. The water heater was reliable and just enough pressure to take a warm shower.

They may lack of other toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo. At least they supplied soaps and new roll of tissue paper which are more essential than mention above.

The friendly Owner and Staff

Summer with Tar (Owner)
Our  acquaintance with Tar was totally unforgettable. You wanna know? Not only he showed a genuine hospitality upon our arrival but was consistent all through out our stay in KL House. He treated us a like a family in their house and make sure we’re comfortable in our stay. Aside from being friendly and hospitable, he was also too kind to agreed on attending our favors and giving us big discount upon booking our island tours with them. We’d save some moolahs and spend it over for extra souvenirs. Kob Khun Kap!

Sky with Nam (Night Reception Staff)
The reception staff at night, Nam was  warm and cordial to every one. She helped us arranging our island tour with the best of her knowledge without compromising our safety. Because of her suggestion on taking a speedboat instead of longtail boat going to Koh Phi Phi. We’d been spared by the rough waves due to bad weather. Not to mention, enjoyed so much of that butt lifting ride. With all her  great recommendations of where to eat and shop. We had explored the best in Krabi which turned into great experience of all our travel in Thailand.

KL house was not just a house in Ao Nang but a home. Surely you’ll feel the same when staying on this temporary abode.
